The fans will have to wait a little longer to cheer for their clubs at the ground, but NRL footy returns this weekend with Bankwest Stadium hosting the first game in NSW . . . Roosters v Rabbitohs on the evening of Friday 29 May.
The ARL Commission has announced a revamped 2020 NRL season draw, with Bankwest Stadium a core venue for the code as it makes its much-anticipated return after the COVID-19 public health crisis.
Five NRL clubs – Parramatta Eels, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and Sydney Roosters – will play their home games at the Western Sydney stadium that has earned worldwide acclaim for its design, functionality and environmental sustainability.
The Stadium will host 17 games over 7 rounds through until mid-July.
The action starts Friday 29 May when the Sydney Roosters line up against arch-rivals the South Sydney Rabbitohs (8pm, Nine, FOX).
The following day Saturday 30 May, the Sharks take on the Tigers (5.30pm, FOX).
Due to current NSW Public Health orders, fans will not be permitted to attend games until further notice.

Bankwest Stadium is working toward having its event and function spaces ready to accept bookings in coming weeks, in line with easing restrictions under NSW Public Health Orders.

Public Tours
In line with current NSW Public Health orders, there are no venue tours being conducted at Bankwest Stadium until further notice.

Bankwest Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry said: “It’s exciting to have the NRL footy returning this weekend and Bankwest Stadium will host five clubs for the foreseeable future, so we are doing all we can with the NRL to ensure a perfectly safe working environment for players, officials and our staff.
“Working closely with the NSW Government and the sporting codes, the Stadium is developing an operational plan and considering a range of strategies that will facilitate the re-introduction of fans to the venue whenever permitted to do so under NSW Public Health orders.“
