The Australian Professional Leagues (APL) has unveiled CommBank Stadium in Western Sydney as the hosting venue for the 2022-23 Liberty A-League Women Grand Final on Sunday 30 April.
Ticket sales will open at 3pm Tuesday 21 February giving fans more opportunity than ever before to plan as the A-Leagues hope to achieve a record crowd at the women’s showpiece event.
In a historic year for women’s football, with bumper CommBank Matildas crowds and 500,000 tickets already sold for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™, the Liberty A-League Women’s Grand Final marks another exciting moment on the women’s football calendar.
Commenting on the announcement, Danny Townsend, A-Leagues CEO, said: “With more girls playing football than ever before, the Matildas flying high, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™ on our doorstep, this is truly an extraordinary year for women’s football in Australia.
“We have expanded the league by three teams and extended the women’s season to match international benchmarks, so we have all the ingredients in place for the women’s game to explode as we have seen in leagues overseas.
“We want to secure a lasting legacy for women’s football, so we need everyone to get behind the Liberty A-League Women and show the world the incredible talent and support that exists here in Australia and New Zealand.”
The Liberty A-League Grand Final will kick off at 4pm and will be broadcast exclusively on 10Bold, 10Play and Paramount+.
NSW Minister for Tourism Ben Franklin said: “Sydney is the nation’s home of football with a huge participation and supporter base and of course the nation’s best football stadium infrastructure.
“In a year where Sydney is celebrating women’s football with the most games of any city for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™, it will be fantastic to see a packed CommBank Stadium for the Liberty A-League Women’s Grand Final as part of that celebration.”
