The Western Sydney Wanderers will play 13 home games at CommBank Stadium this season after the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) confirmed the full list of fixtures for the 2021/22 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s season.

The Wanderers will play their traditional New Year’s Day fixture against Western United, setting up a run of fixtures during January as part of a summer of football.

“This season is a landmark moment for football in Australia,” said A-Leagues Commissioner Greg O’Rourke.

“We are proud to be able to deliver another full and action packed season for fans to access in more ways than ever before.

“Last season we saw the emergence of some incredible talent, and those football stories will once again be on display in stadiums this season.

“We have a new and exciting broadcast partnership with 10 ViacomCBS for our broadcast on free-to-air television as well as Paramount+ and our clubs are eager to start playing games.”

This year, the Isuzu UTE A-League men’s season will end with four weeks of finals, with semi finals to be fought on a home and away basis adding another level of excitement for fans.

Under the new format, the team finishing third on the ladder will host the side that comes sixth, while fourth will play fifth, both ties played as single finals.

The sides that finished first and second on the ladder will play the two qualifiers in home-and-away semifinals over two weekends, before the Grand Final follows on the fourth weekend of the finals.

Further information regarding stadium capacity and ticketing details will be released in the coming weeks.

Sport is coming back to Western Sydney with the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) today confirming the first fixtures of the A-League and W-League seasons.

A massive Round 1 Sydney Derby is locked in at the Stadium on Saturday 20 November, with the Western Sydney Wanderers back home a week later on 28 November before an A-League/W-League double-header on Saturday 11 December.

“Football is back and we can’t wait to get started,” said Leagues Commissioner Greg O’Rourke. “We’ve got more football than ever before, with both an expanded finals series and the addition of Wellington Phoenix to the women’s league.

“We’ve already seen some incredible young talent coming through the League and on to the Olympics, and with those players now more established, we are going to see even more great stories.”

The football games will be some of the first events back at the Stadium since the current COVID lockdown, and among the first at the newly-named CommBank Stadium after Bankwest agreed to pass the naming rights to CommBank earlier this week.

The name change is part of a significant commitment by the CBA Group to support business in Western Sydney on the recovery side of the pandemic.

All events at CommBank Stadium will be staged in line with NSW Health advice at the time to ensure the venue is COVID Safe.

The Stadium is looking forward to welcoming fans back for live sport and entertainment, with more details to come on tickets and NSW Government information regarding events.

More details about subsequent fixtures will be released later in the year, with border restrictions predicted to be eased by the turn of the year under the Federal Government’s national COVID-19 transition plan.

With the season start dates having been adjusted to reflect the evolving landscape of COVID-19 restrictions, the club football season will finish with the men’s Grand Final scheduled for 28 May.
