Parra Eels to launch the NRLW season at CommBank Stadium this Saturday

Tiana Penitani in training for the NRLW

Parramatta Eels co-captain Tiana Penitani believes playing their season opener in front of a big home crowd at CommBank Stadium gives her team every opportunity for a successful start to the 2022 NRL Telstra Women’s Premiership on Saturday.

The Eels could not face a tougher opponent first-up in season 2022 – up against reigning NRLW premiers the Sydney Roosters on a massive day of footy at CommBank Stadium.

“We’re excited and feel really lucky to be able to play in front of a home crowd first round,” said Penitani.

“I think that’s really going to give us a lot of energy to carry through the season and we know we’ve got the best fans in the game, so it’ll be really good to see everyone get out for round one of NRLW.”

Penitani has strong expectations of the Eels this season, saying, “We want us to build. Last year I think we were a bit inconsistent week to week. We want to obviously set the platform in round one and then just keep building and getting better. We know come the finals time we want to be peaking and at our best.”

Both the Eels and the Roosters tied on points last season with the visitors advancing through to finals due to point differential.

This will be Parramatta Eels’ second season in the NRLW and they will be looking to improve on their 5th placed position last season.

The NRLW began in 2018 with a four-team competition before expanding to six in 2021. They will grow again in 2023 with the introduction of four more teams taking their total to 10.

Parra Eels to launch NRLW season at CommBank Stadium this Saturday

The NRLW season kicks off right here at CommBank Stadium this Saturday as part of a huge tripleheader in Western Sydney.

Eels Co-Captain Tiana Penitani in training for the NRLW season kick off

Eels Co-Captain Tiana Penitani has said that home field advantage to start the season could be key for any success this year, “[I’m] so excited. I feel really lucky to be able to play in front of a home crowd first round. I think that’s really going to give us a lot of energy to carry through the season and we know we’ve got the best fans in the game so it’ll be really good to see everyone get out for round one of NRLW”.

Penitani has strong expectations of her team this year, saying, ”I want to build. Last year I think we were a bit inconsistent week to week. I want to obviously set the platform in round one and then just keep building and getting better. I know come the finals time hopefully we’ll be peaking and at our best”.

”I just want to get the best of our players, we’ve got so much talent and I just want to make sure that’s cohesive across the whole field – don’t want to play as individuals, we want to play as one unit”.

The @ParramattaEels will start their campaign against the reigning premiers @SydneyRoosters. Both teams tied on points last season with the visitors advancing through to finals due to point differential.

This will be Parramatta Eels’ second season in the NRLW and they will be looking to improve on their 5th placed position a season before.

The NRLW began in 2018 with a four-team competition before expanding to six in 2021. They will grow again in 2023 with the introduction of four more teams taking their total to 10.

Saturday will also feature a half-time performance during the third game of the tripleheader, by rapper, Masked Wolf, as part of Sound West, an initiative to grow Western Sydney’s arts and tech scene.
