The HSBC Sydney 7s will head to the jewel in the crown of Sydney Stadia, Bankwest Stadium for the 2020 tournament to be played from February 1-2.

Having had three successful years at Allianz Stadium in Sydney and a fourth at Spotless Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, the fifth edition of the hugely popular tournament will light up Sydney’s west over two action-packed days.

The unique colour and atmosphere of the HSBC World Series Sevens will bring together fans from across the globe to create the ultimate sports and entertainment experience at the new world class Parramatta venue.

Bankwest Stadium precinct will be transformed into a Rugby festival with live bands, rides, interactive entertainment, the kids’ zone, and plenty of places to eat and drink, coupled with the best Rugby Sevens athletes from across the world doing battle less than six months out from the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Fan-favourites that have become synonymous with the HSBC Sydney 7s will return with Dance Cam, Kiss Cam, The Gun show, and Karaoke all to feature again in the 2020 edition. There will also be some new additions and surprises to be announced over the coming months.

Sydney Business Chamber: Bankwest Stadium kicks goals for Western Sydney economy

The new Bankwest Stadium will turbocharge the Parramatta CBD and inject millions of dollars into the Western Sydney economy, according to analysis by the Western Sydney Business Chamber.

The analysis found that visiting sports fans and major event goers to the new stadium would spend more than $176 million in the next two years.

David Borger, Executive Director of the Western Sydney Business Chamber said, “The opening of the new Bankwest Stadium will see a surge of new visitations to Parramatta that we have never seen before.

This is now one the best stadiums in the country with a spectator experience unparalleled.

“The flow-on benefits from the stadium will be immense. Parramatta’s night-time economy will be supercharged.

“Parramatta will expect to see a wave of tourists – coming to watch sports games and concerts at Bankwest Stadium.

“Patrons making their way to and from the stadium will be stopping at one of the many cafes and restaurants nearby – boosting the vibrancy of Parramatta Eat Street. We will also see out-of-towners booking accommodation at local hotels,” Mr Borger said.

Bankwest Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry said Bankwest Stadium was designed for the fans with the event experience front of mind.

“Bankwest Stadium will provide a fantastic new stage for rugby league, football and rugby union with fans closer to the action than ever before. It will also host a range of community events and activities, business meetings, shows and concerts.

“More than 30 sport and entertainment events are already confirmed, with more to be announced. We will host hundreds of additional meetings and special events, and anticipate more than 600,000 people will walk through the gates of Bankwest Stadium in its first nine months of operation,” Mr Kerry said.

Bankwest Managing Director Rowan Munchenberg said Bankwest was thrilled to support this critical piece of community infrastructure in the vibrant, diverse and growing corridor of Western Sydney.

“The Bankwest Stadium partnership will send a clear message to the people of Western Sydney and, more broadly NSW, that we’ll continue to invest in products and services that meet their needs,” Mr Munchenberg said.

NRL Chief Executive Todd Greenberg said Bankwest Stadium would be a game-changerfor Sydney.

“Clearly, there are huge benefits for rugby league as a whole.

Parramatta, Wests Tigers and the Bulldogs will all use the new stadium this year and the Downer Rugby league World Cup 9s Sydney 2019 will be another event to showcase our sport in the new venue.

“Given the number of matches and events on show, the economic benefits will be significant not only for Western Sydney but for Sydney and NSW in general.

“This will show us not only what we have been missing when it comes to state-of-the-art stadia, but how the state can benefit economically from them,” Mr Greenberg said.

Parramatta Eels Club CEO Bernie Gurr said, “We are thrilled to be the anchor tenant and to showcase the benefits Bankwest Stadium will have on Parramatta’s economy when we play our first game at the stadium on April 22.

Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said, “The Wanderers arrival in Parramatta coincided with an economic boom that will positively impact Western Sydney for many years to come.

Rugby Australia Chief Executive Raelene Castle said Bankwest Stadium would finally give Sydney a genuine world-class rectangular venue.

“We are looking forward to seeing the Qantas Wallabies take on Samoa in the first Rugby Test match at the venue on September 7.

“Rugby fans will have the opportunity to experience a stadium that is purpose-built for our game and is designed to create an atmosphere that will ensure the Wallabies get a fitting send-off before they embark on their Rugby World Cup campaign in Japan,” Ms Castle said.

Allocation Exhausted for Wednesday Night Lights

The rush to experience events at Bankwest Stadium continues with all casual tickets for Wednesday Night Lights now exhausted.

A crowd in excess of 10,000 people is on the way for the Wednesday night event that will feature a Stadium light show in conjunction with an Eels training session and meet-the-players opportunity.

Parramatta Eels Members are entitled to access the venue by scanning in on their 2019 Member Cards.

Bankwest Stadium opened to the public on Sunday when more than 30,000 people walked through the turnstiles for the Community Open Day.

Wednesday Night Lights is a test event for the venue in the lead-up to the historic sold-out first sporting event featuring the Eels against Wests Tigers on Easter Monday and it will be the first time fans get to experience the Stadium’s fully integrated lighting technology.

The Stadium will be bathed in blue and gold as the Eels undertake an important training session before the Easter Monday clash.

Bankwest Stadium opened its doors for the first time on Sunday 14 April, with more than 30,000 fans attending a Community Open Day.

The Wednesday Night Lights event from 6.30pm Wednesday 17 April will double as a test event for the Stadium while featuring a light show, Parramatta Eels training session and a meet-the-players opportunity. Every fan will be entitled to a complimentary drink on entering Bankwest Stadium.

The historic first sporting event will be Parramatta Eels v Wests Tigers on Easter Monday 22 April – an event that is already a sell-out.

Bankwest Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry said today the stadium team had worked closely with Venues NSW, the government agency that oversees the venue, and the sporting clubs that use it to ensure fans get value for money when they enjoy food and beverages at the Stadium.

“Bankwest Stadium was built for the fans and ultimately what we are trying to do is make a day or night at the footy more affordable,” Mr Kerry said.

“This Stadium will offer an unparalleled event experience with fans closer to the action than ever before, and we are doing everything we can to encourage people to leave their lounge rooms and get out to the footy.

“We are confident fans will feel they are getting good value for their money when they buy food and beverages at Bankwest Stadium.”

Mr Kerry said food and beverage prices were generally up to 20 per cent lower than normal in the public areas. He said families and fans would also be able to bring their own food and non-alcoholic, non-glass bottled drinks from home.

Bankwest Stadium General Manager of Catering, Andreas Breitfuss, said Bankwest Stadium’s 14 permanent affordable food and beverage outlets and 13 mobile kiosks in the public areas would carry all the game-day food staples that fans enjoy at the footy. Outlets will also feature a range of food and beverage items that reflect the diversity of Western Sydney and considers the changing tastes of consumers across NSW.

“There will be an exciting range of food options that highlights the flavours of local operators in the community, promotes local providores, and showcases NSW growers, producers and winemakers,” Mr Breitfuss said.

“We like to call these our High Street foods – meals inspired by the diversity of the local food community in Parramatta and Western Sydney.”

Aside from the affordable food, the more substantial meals that will be sold at the retail outlets at Bankwest Stadium are:

The stage is set for a grand opening of Bankwest Stadium, with almost 30,000 people having already redeemed tickets to see inside the new home of sport and entertainment in Western Sydney.

Tickets to the Bankwest Stadium Community Open Day are free and include public transport to and from Parramatta, with fans only needing to choose a session time and redeem a ticket via Ticketek.

The one-hour sessions inside the Stadium commence at 9:30am and continue through the day.

The ticket allocation for the 11am session is already fully exhausted, with all 8000 tickets snapped up by fans itching to experience the new Stadium.

Club legends, mascots and available players from home clubs the Parramatta Eels, Western Sydney Wanderers, Wests Tigers and NSW Waratahs will all be part of the Open Day as Members and fans see the Stadium for the first time.

NSW Minister for Sport John Sidoti today encouraged fans to come out and enjoy the Community Open Day on Sunday.

“This Stadium will be a game-changer for sport in NSW and indeed will be a facility for everyone in our community, with the venue to host a range of sport, entertainment, business and cultural events each year,” he said.

“The Community Open Day is an opportunity for the public to see this magnificent new Stadium and the facilities that it will provide for the public, as well as our sporting codes and clubs.”

Bankwest Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry said there were still plenty of free tickets available for the Open Day.

“This Stadium is unashamedly for the fans and you can gauge the level of excitement in the community by the number of people who have already locked in their tickets for Open Day,” Mr Kerry said.

“Ticket-holders will see how much closer to the action they will be and get to mingle with representatives from the clubs and codes that will call the Stadium home in 2019.

“Open Day is also about the fans helping us test their Stadium before the big events start in 2019.”

Bankwest Executive General Manager Customer Experience, Andrew Chanmugam said he was looking forward to seeing the local community enjoying the benefits of the new stadium in the heart of Western Sydney.

Inside the Stadium on Sunday, ticket-holders will be able to loop around the Level 1 Concourse, find their seats for upcoming events, and experience the steep grandstands and other unique design aspects of Bankwest Stadium.

As they move through the Stadium, fans will also be able to explore Australia’s first Field Club and the warm-up rooms, and get side-of-field to experience what it’s like to be at pitch level.
