The Rocketman is lifting off at Bankwest Stadium next year with global music icon Sir Elton John set to play at the venue on Saturday 7 March.
The show is another exciting addition to the Bankwest Stadium Calendar and the first concert to be locked in at the venue.
It is the first concert announced at the new home of sport and entertainment in Western Sydney, which has already welcomed 180,000 visitors since its opening on 14 April.
Minister for Sport John Sidoti said today’s confirmation of the Elton John concert followed the securing of four major international sporting events for Bankwest Stadium.
“The new Bankwest Stadium has been a complete game-changer for sport in Western Sydney, delivering a next-level event experience for fans, players, clubs and codes,” Mr Sidoti said.
“Now we have one of the world’s greatest artists – Sir Elton John – on his way to Bankwest Stadium for the first announced concert at the new venue.
“The unique design of Bankwest Stadium lends itself to an amazing concert experience, so Saturday 7 March 2020 is a date to mark down on the calendar for a must-see event.”
Elton John has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. He has more than 50 Top 40 hits, as well as seven consecutive No.1 albums.
The show at Bankwest Stadium comes in response to enormous demand for Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour and hot on the heels of the incredible global success of the Rocketman epic musical fantasy.
Since going on sale in February this year, almost half a million tickets have been sold across Australia and New Zealand.
“We’re thrilled to be adding even more dates to Elton’s final tour”, said promoter Michael Chugg.
“Demand has been absolutely incredible, we know the Rocketman is going to create magic memories for Australia and New Zealand when he arrives.”
Tickets for the Elton John concert at Bankwest Stadium will go on sale at 12 noon Tuesday 25 June via Ticketek.
The Bankwest Stadium concert on 7 March will be the final show on the Australian-New Zealand leg of Elton’s world tour and will be one of 2020’s can’t-miss events.
