“We appreciate the support you give us all the way from down under and we hope to see you all when we land in July. Take care, we’ll see you soon.”

Leeds’ visit to Australia coincides with the club’s 100th anniversary with celebrations set to begin while they’re Down Under. Sydney-siders will be some of the first to get their hands on the new Leeds anniversary merchandise.

Yesterday the first group of Leeds fans stepped in to Bankwest Stadium to visit the seats they will call home in the southern end of the Stadium on 20 July.

Leeds are well-known for their passionate and vocal support and they’ve promised to bring the noise next month.

Leeds United NSW supporters group chairman Brendan O’Neill believes the fans will make Bankwest Stadium a cauldron of sound.

“The volume Leeds fans bring to any game is off the Richter scale,” said O’Neill.

“Whatever happens, we will always sing loud and proud for our team.

“It’s a great chance for the Wanderers fans to come out and experience the loudest fans in the world.”

Leeds have a strong connection with Australia, and Sydney will be haven for their fans with a number of events planned.

Leeds will also begin their 100th anniversary celebrations while on tour.

Safe standing installed at Bankwest Stadium one month out from Wanderers v Leeds

Preparations for the first football match at Bankwest Stadium are well underway with the Australian-first safe standing area installed and tested with just one month to go until the game.

The Western Sydney Wanderers will face iconic English club Leeds United on Saturday 20 July with football fans itching to be part of the historic event.

Tickets are selling fast and fans are encouraged to get in quick to secure their seat here

A small group of Wanderers Members became the first fans to see the safe standing in action today when they were joined by Wanderers defender Tarek Elrich and Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas at the Stadium.

Only a section of the active support area was tested, but when fully deployed 1260 seats will be removed from Bankwest Stadium’s northern end and replaced with rails to accommodate 1260 standing spaces.

“This is a new beginning for the club,” said Elrich.

“The fans, the players and the coaches all expect results here and hopefully we can fill the Stadium.

“When the fans are out here supporting us we feel that on the pitch and we’d love to see this new active support area packed with the Red and Black.

“Leeds have a very rich culture and they’re a massive club so to have them come out here and play against us in the new Stadium next month is something we’ll never forget.”

Western Sydney Wanderers v Leeds United on 20 July will be the first time the safe standing area is activated at Bankwest Stadium and the first time it will be implemented in Australia.

The dedicated active support area is being hailed as a game-changer for fans and will only add to the Wanderers famous atmosphere.

“This safe standing represents a landmark moment for Australian football,” said Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas.

“It’s something we’ve lobbied for long and hard and now it’s come to fruition. It’s the first time an Australian football team has been able to have a safe standing area, and we’re glad to be leading the charge in terms of active support.

“Tomorrow marks 30 days to go until we play Leeds here and it’s going to be a monumental day for the Western Sydney Wanderers.”

The Wanderers are set to play all 13 home matches at Bankwest Stadium from the 2019/2020 Hyundai A-League season onwards.

The Wanderers’ W-League team will also play matches at Bankwest Stadium from next season.

Music icon Elton John the latest major event confirmed for Bankwest Stadium

The Rocketman is lifting off at Bankwest Stadium next year with global music icon Sir Elton John set to play at the venue on Saturday 7 March.

The show is another exciting addition to the Bankwest Stadium Calendar and the first concert to be locked in at the venue.

It is the first concert announced at the new home of sport and entertainment in Western Sydney, which has already welcomed 180,000 visitors since its opening on 14 April.

Minister for Sport John Sidoti said today’s confirmation of the Elton John concert followed the securing of four major international sporting events for Bankwest Stadium.

“The new Bankwest Stadium has been a complete game-changer for sport in Western Sydney, delivering a next-level event experience for fans, players, clubs and codes,” Mr Sidoti said.

“Now we have one of the world’s greatest artists – Sir Elton John – on his way to Bankwest Stadium for the first announced concert at the new venue.

“The unique design of Bankwest Stadium lends itself to an amazing concert experience, so Saturday 7 March 2020 is a date to mark down on the calendar for a must-see event.”

Elton John has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. He has more than 50 Top 40 hits, as well as seven consecutive No.1 albums.

The show at Bankwest Stadium comes in response to enormous demand for Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour and hot on the heels of the incredible global success of the Rocketman epic musical fantasy.

Since going on sale in February this year, almost half a million tickets have been sold across Australia and New Zealand.

“We’re thrilled to be adding even more dates to Elton’s final tour”, said promoter Michael Chugg.

“Demand has been absolutely incredible, we know the Rocketman is going to create magic memories for Australia and New Zealand when he arrives.”

Tickets for the Elton John concert at Bankwest Stadium will go on sale at 12 noon Tuesday 25 June via Ticketek.

The Bankwest Stadium concert on 7 March will be the final show on the Australian-New Zealand leg of Elton’s world tour and will be one of 2020’s can’t-miss events.

To celebrate 50 days to go, fans can get $50 B Reserve tickets for the next 50 hours – that’s a saving of $20! Head here.

The new home ground will be met with a new team as the Wanderers go through a transformation under second-year coach Markus Babbel. Already the Wanderers have signed Swiss duo Pirmin Schwegler and Daniel Lopar for the upcoming season.

And welcoming the Wanderers home will be a sea of Red and Black packed into Bankwest Stadium.

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said the match was a huge milestone for the club and its supporters in Western Sydney.

“We cannot wait to see our wonderful members and fans turn Bankwest Stadium Red & Black for our opening match at our new home against Leeds United,” said Tsatsimas.

“With only 50 days to go until our official return to Wanderland this is an incredible opportunity for Western Sydney to host a world class match in a world class venue with our world class fans in our own backyard.”

Red and Black Active supporters will also get to experience the Stadium’s safe standing area at the game, with 1260 seats to be taken out in the northern grandstand directly behind the goals.

But the Wanderers’ faithful won’t have it all their own way as more than 6000 Leeds United supporters have already secured their seats in the southern end of the Stadium.

Leeds announced this week that celebrated manager Marcelo Bielsa has signed on for another season and that he will lead the squad to Sydney.

Bielsa, whose storied career has seen him manage in his home of Argentina, Chile, Spain, France and now England, is much beloved by the Leeds faithful and is determined to restore the club to the Premier League after narrowly missing out this season.

Bankwest Stadium is pleased to announce Western Sydney University as the Stadium’s exclusive Community and Education Partner.

The partnership brings together two organisations dedicated to making a positive impact on the communities of Western Sydney and beyond.

Bankwest Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry said today: “Bankwest Stadium is committed to supporting the wellbeing and education of all Australians, and as a thriving hub of community activity, the Stadium understands and embraces the opportunity it has to make a positive difference in this area.

“We are proud to partner with Western Sydney University, whose Parramatta City campus and Parramatta South campus are just down the road from the Stadium, and we look forward to sharing our passion for NSW and the Western Sydney region with them.”

Western Sydney University’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Barney Glover AO welcomed the new partnership between the University and Bankwest Stadium.

“The five-year partnership will provide a wealth of educational and practical opportunities for Western Sydney University students and staff to engage with a world-class sporting facility,” said Professor Glover.

“Bankwest Stadium is an exciting new sporting and entertainment hub for the Greater Western Sydney community to enjoy.”

As a key pillar of the partnership, Western Sydney University will have a permanent sponsorship presence within Bankwest Stadium through in-stadium signage for the duration of the partnership.

The 30,000-seat Bankwest Stadium opened its doors to the public with a Community Open Day on Sunday 14 April and has already hosted blockbuster sporting events and a series of business, community and cultural events.

More than 30 sport and entertainment events are already confirmed for the Stadium, with more to be announced.

The Stadium will host hundreds of additional meetings, functions and community events, with more than 600,000 people expected through the gates in its first nine months of operation.

New Bankwest Stadium external signs light up Parramatta for the first time

New Bankwest Stadium external signs light up Parramatta for the first time

Julian Keith

Two giant Bankwest Stadium external signs have lit up for the first time . . . the Bankwest sign is another significant milestone on the journey of the new home of sport and entertainment in Western Sydney.

The external signs, located on the eastern and northern facades of the Stadium, were installed this week and switched on by Bankwest’s Executive General Manager of Customer Experience Andrew Chanmugam ahead of the first night-time NRL game at the venue – Parramatta Eels v Penrith Panthers.

The external lighting of the signs will be complemented by Bankwest Stadium’s integrated lighting technology inside the venue, featuring 260 LED sports lights in the roof and 360-degree LED ribbon screens.

Bankwest was announced as naming rights partner for the Stadium in December 2018 after a seven-year partnership was sealed between the company and Venues NSW, the NSW Government agency that oversees Bankwest Stadium.

Mr Chanmugam said: “Fans attending the NRL game between Western Sydney arch-rivals the Parramatta Eels and Penrith Panthers tonight (23 May) will see the new external signs on Bankwest Stadium illuminated for the first time.

“Bankwest was thrilled to support this critical piece of community infrastructure in the vibrant, diverse and growing corridor of Western Sydney and seeing the Bankwest Stadium sign light up on the building for the first time will be a special moment.

“The Bankwest Stadium partnership sends a clear message to the people of Western Sydney that we’ll continue to invest in products and services that meet their needs.

“Our vision is to deliver amazing customer experiences that matter, which is strongly aligned to the vision of this stadium ‘to empower world-class fan experiences’.”

Bankwest Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry said the switching on of the external signs at the Stadium was another important step on the journey of bringing to life the venue that sets a new benchmark for the event experience in this country.

“Bankwest Stadium was opened to the public just a fortnight after construction was completed because we wanted to get the sporting codes, clubs and fans into the Stadium as soon as it was physically possible for us to do so,” Mr Kerry said.

“The Stadium and its precinct continue to evolve and tonight we see the new Bankwest Stadium external signage illuminated for the first time.

“This is a Stadium that has been built with the fan experience front of mind and the feedback from fans, clubs and codes has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Bankwest Stadium opened to the public with a Community Open Day on Sunday 14 April.

The Stadium has been hailed as a game-changer for sport in Western Sydney, with almost 100,000 fans and visitors already passing through the turnstiles for a series of sport, business and community events.

Hundreds of Western Sydney residents have also taken advantage of the community playground and outdoor exercise equipment on the eastern side of the Stadium, as well as the open green spaces of the Stadium precinct.

Stars of Women’s Sport light up Bankwest Stadium for Minerva Network Workshop

Stars of Women’s Sport light up Bankwest Stadium

They excel in a range of different sports – from the rugby codes, football, Aussie rules and cricket, to netball, rowing, tennis and athletics.

However, the star female athletes who stepped out on to the new Bankwest Stadium turf on Tuesday night came together with a common purpose.

They are determined to close the gap between on-field activities and off-field success by helping one another understand their full potential both on and off the field, including how to benefit from the commerce of sport.

The Minerva Network was established to help elite sportswomen identify and navigate commercial challenges through meaningful mentor-mentee relationships.

The foundation class of athletes included some of the biggest names in Australian sport such as cricketers Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy, Olympic Rugby 7s gold medallists Alicia Quirk, Emma Tonegato and Charlotte Caslick, Matildas defender Ellie Carpenter and Western Sydney Wanderers’ Football NSW Role Model of The Year Jada Whyman, and rugby league powerhouse Kezie Apps.

Healy, Quirk and Whyman were among the athletes at Bankwest Stadium for Tuesday night’s Minerva Network Workshop and Cocktail Event.

The athletes heard from inspirational and informative speakers including Thinkerbell marketing guru Adam Ferrier and the Executive Director of Human Resources at QIC, Glenn Jackson.

Quirk said: “Fundamentally I believe female athletes are the greatest role models and best, most easily marketed athletes, so it’s great that there’s now a platform like Minerva Network for that to happen.

“I feel very privileged to be part of the Network and it’s always wonderful to catch up with athletes from other sports at our events.”

Minerva Network co-founders Christine McLoughlin, the Chair of the Venues NSW Board and of the Suncorp Group and nib Holdings, and Sam Mostyn, Chair of CitiGroup, were joined by Venues NSW Board Members John Quayle and Glenn Turner at the Bankwest Stadium Minerva Network event.

Creating a spectacular backdrop for the event, Bankwest Stadium lit up as the athletes congregated on the pitch with the Enigma-inspired Minerva Network branding appearing on the big screens and on the LED ribbons that run around the seating bowl.

The success of Minerva would not have been possible without the backing of sponsors such as Enigma, the creative firm behind the network’s branding and website, and major support from Venues NSW, the NSW Government agency that oversees Bankwest Stadium, and VenuesLive, the leading venue management company that operates the Stadium.
